She is simply Okine and she sings soukous. Real name, Kinsou
Odette grew up in Nigeria under the watchful eyes of late Pa Oschofa
of the Celestial Church of Christ, who married her sister.
As a teenager, Okine left Nigeria for Cotonuo, Republic of Benin
where she had her secondary school education. After school, Okine
went straight into music and became an instant celebrity.
She says: “I discovered my singing talent at the Celestial Church of
Christ. I was then living with late Pa Oschofa, who married my
sister.
In her late 20s, Okine has conquered the French-speaking West Coast
with her style of soukous. “ I am well known in Cote d’voire and
other French speaking countries. I have performed in many concerts
in the West Coast. I once performed at the same venue in Abidjan
with Tuface. Right now, Nigeria is my main target because it has the
largest market in Africa.”
Okine released an album entitled “Ewa Wa Gnom” in 2003, which was
accepted in all the Francophone countries. Recently, she performed
at the Bukky Wright film premiere and she was a delight to watch. |
