You and the ChurchVoice of Grace (Sunday Spiritual Menu Series)By: Evangelist Joseph O Olorunnisola Date: June 25, 2006
Let us together examine what God has to say. In Exodus 20:25. God Almighty stated through Moses, “An altar of earth thou shall make unto me, and shall sacrifice therein thy burnt offerings, and thy peace offerings: in all places where I record my name, I will come unto thee and I will bless thee.” Furthermore in Exodus 29: 42-43, He states, “Thus shall be a continual burnt offering throughout your generations at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation before the lord, where I will meet you, to speak there unto thee. And there I will meet with the children of Israel and the tabernacle shall be sanctified by my glory.” Paul the apostle of old in his epistles clarifies that the church is a body of believers in Jesus Christ; Jesus himself instructively stating in Matthew 16: 17-18 that a church is a congregation of people who are standing on the foundation of the twelve apostles. A foundation that is anchored on The Rock – The Rock being the acceptance of Jesus as Christ and the Son of the living God. In a more literary, and pragmatic manner, Apostle Paul in 1 Tim. 3: 15 describes church as the meeting point with the living God and the pillar and ground of the Truth. For whatever reason, the anti-church individuals have missed out on the main purpose underlying their creation: to worship God and obey His Commandments, and thereby remain a source of His glory. Eccl. 12:13-14. Isaiah 43:7.The whole purpose of being sent to the world is simply to test your self disciple and total obedience to the ruling of God amidst the glamour, beauty, civilization and issues, scientific and management that stand to challenge the rationality and optimality of God’s wisdom. This is the only singular purpose for coming into the world: total submission to God; every other occupation is unimportant to God. For example, Jesus says in Luke 6:27-30 – Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you. Bless them that curse you, and pray for them which despitefully use you. And unto him that smiteth thee on one cheek, offer also the other, etc. To a natural man, God cannot be right by these seemingly impossible pronouncements, but certainly it is the key to true inner peace, joy, and freedom from bondage. The spiritual man trusts in this. The church is, indeed, the meeting point with God, the ambience of His glory, the Household of Christ, the platform of His covenant and fulfillment, the fortress, and more importantly, the clinic for the forgiveness of sins and sanctification. Those who reject this fact will live in uncertainty and perpetual danger of sudden disaster. Prov. 1:24-32. But how do we know a true church among the current innumerable Houses of deceit, heresy and apostasy? A true living church should exhibit the following fundamentals: Acceptance of Jehovah as the only Almighty God. Him alone must be seen as being worshipped and served. No other god, or fetish work of darkness.
A number of Christians and most ministers of God are driven into ungodliness by worries, anxieties and impatience (all products of faithlessness). 85% of what we worry about never happen. Still we possessively hold on to our worries as if it will spell the end of our lives. Minor problems send us into a dither, larger ones threaten to totally unravel us. We see the negative side of everything before we consider the positive aspect. Worries make fool of us. It controls our lives and leave us with empty hearts and missed experiences. Today, seek out a true living church and remain faithful in Christ to behold the glory and the enduring goodness of God. Don’t miss eternity. Nothing in this world is worth it.
