Trust God, Not the Numbers1 Chronicles 21:1-2 Now Satan stood up against Israel, and moved David to number Israel. So David said to Joab and to the leaders of the people, Go, number Israel from Beersheba to Dan, and bring the number of them to me that I may know it. King David got carried away and he sought to number the people with the hope of knowing or at least estimating the strength of his army against the wish of God. This sheer act of disobedience not only shook David's kingdom but over 70,000 innocent lives were destroyed in the process. Our strengths, prowess and successes are not just in the number of our armies, skills, academic qualifications, vast financial resources etc, but in the abundant grace and power of the Almighty God. David realized this soon after*. Psalms 20:7-8 Some trust in chariots, and some in horses; But we will remember the name of the LORD our God. They have bowed down and fallen; But we have risen and stand upright. David, like any human was susceptible to doing, indulged in the numbers and resources at his disposal, but victory, strength and prosperity comes from Jehovah God and no one else. Brothers and Sisters, while we thank God for the numbers, money, toys and deeds, let's not take the real focus away from the source of our victory, strength and power. To God will be all glory at all times. Be Encouraged, Afolabi Oghafua Bible quotes taken from the New King James Version * 1982 by Thomas Nelson, Inc.
